Artistic London: Tate Britain

Let’s be honest, if you don’t quite know what you’re looking at, art galleries can be a bit overwhelming. Thousands of paintings and sculptures, one after another... Where to start? When to stop?

So let’s do this differently. Rather than a mission to ‘see everything’ we’ll be focusing on just a handful of selected artworks, learning a bit about the artist who made it, why they did so, the style and techniques employed, where it fits in the canon of art history, and why it is indeed considered a masterpiece.

This is beginner’s level and no prior knowledge is needed – it doesn’t matter if you don’t know your Arp from your Uccello! Of course, you’ll be invited to share your views – the beauty of art is that there is no right answer…
